BUDAPEST, 09. DEC.2015 – Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto says his country’s relations with Serbia are “exceptionally good,” while those with Croatia “have never been worse.” Relations with Slovakia and Serbia have been burdened with “serious challenges, tensions and historical issues, but pragmatic cooperation made it possible to resolve the situation,” Szijjarto told Hungarian parliament’s committee on the national unity. According to him, the cooling in relations with Croatian was caused by that country’s criticism of Hungary’s migration policy and the fact that Croatia did not finish the gas interconnector between the two countries which, the minister believes, poses a “serious threat” to Hungary’s energy security. Therefore, the focus has been on linking the Hungarian gas network with Slovenia, he noted. “Serious challenges” also exist in Hungary’s relations with Romania, said Szijjarto, blaming former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who, as he said, “launched a number of attacks” against Hungary. Romania, however, remains an important business partner, the MTI news agency quoted him as saying. Szijjarto also said that Hungary supports Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and adheres to EU’s joint decisions. However, the agreement from Minsk should be respected by all signatories, and not only by Russia, the minister concluded.
