BELGRADE, 05. SEPT. 2016 – A man arrested on suspicion that he spied for Croatia has reached a plea bargain with the Serbian Prosecution. Serbia’s state broadcaster RTS reported this, naming the suspect as Cedo Colovic, and claiming that he “agreed serve three years in prison.” RTS is also reporting that the offer has been sent to the Higher Court, where a judge will decide on whether to accept it. After the arrest, the Prosecution said the man in custody held dual Serbia-Croatian citizenship and had moved from Croatia to Serbia in 1990. Momir Stojanovic, former director of the Serbian Military Security Agency (VOA), told Belgrade daily Politika that it remains to be determined what information has been passed on to Croatia, but also “who the suspect’s helpers are – considering that this is not only about the arrest of one person, but about uncovering a whole network of suspects.” Stojanovic also observed that Croatia’s intelligence services have many times in the past “done the work” on behalf of German counterparts, “at least when it comes to the activity toward the Republic of Serbia.”
